The Ottawa Hospital Foundation

We are fortunate to have thousands of people in our community who are dedicated to supporting The Ottawa Hospital. Whether through a personal donation or corporate gift, or by participating and raising funds through community events, individuals are raising critical funds for a wide variety of departments, programs and units at all three campuses.

Below are a few highlights of the past year:

20-20 Campaign

In May 2008, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation launched the 20-20 Campaign, with a goal of raising $20 million in 20 months for The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre at the General Campus by January 2010. The Cancer Centre is undergoing the largest expansion in its history, which will allow for more equipment, reduced wait times and more lifesaving research. Together, these improvements will mean that thousands of patients will have access to better care and innovative treatments. Thanks to the efforts of our generous community, the Foundation reached the $12.6 million mark in the campaign, as of April 1, 2009.

Celebrating Community Support: In October 2008, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation held a special celebration for the hundreds of individuals and organizations that supported the $100-million Legacy Campaign. At the annual Behind the Scenes event, the Foundation leaders unveiled the final Legacy Campaign donor wall, as well as named several of the operating rooms in the new Critical Care Wing in honour of donors who made a significant gift.

Dr. Shiv Jindal, a nephrologist at the Riverside Campus, and his wife Sarita are among more than 300 donors on the Legacy Campaign wall. In October 2007, Dr. Jindal gave $1 million to jumpstart a campaign for a kidney prevention research program, challenging the community to raise an additional $1 million.

Ongoing Expansion of Critical Care Facilities: The expansion of the Civic Campus Intensive Care Unit was completed in March 2009. Community support helped make this important expansion possible—nearly doubling the space and number of beds to help staff provide the very best care to critically ill patients. The long-awaited General Campus Emergency Department expansion began in 2008. The project will double the size of the ER, allowing for more privacy, more state-of-the-art equipment and more isolation rooms to reduce spread of infection. The Foundation is actively fundraising for this important project, which is expected to be complete in 2011.
